Digital signage alternatives

A self-hosted alternative to OptiSigns, Screenly and Yodeck

RingCast Manager is free, open-source digital signage that runs on your own Linux server and drives Raspberry Pi and LG webOS screens running RingCast Player. OptiSigns, Screenly and Yodeck are hosted services billed per screen, and so is our own hosted edition, RingCast Cloud at ringcast.io. Here is how they compare, and when another one is the better choice.

We make RingCast Manager. This page compares it with other products using their own public pages, checked 4 October 2026. We've tried to be fair, including where another product is the better choice.

If you want signage on hardware you own, with no per-screen subscription and your content kept on your own server, RingCast Manager fits. If you would rather not run a server, RingCast Cloud at ringcast.io is our hosted, web-based edition. If you need vendor support contracts or a wider choice of player hardware, OptiSigns, Screenly or Yodeck may suit you better.

Two ways to run RingCast

Self-hosted or hosted

RingCast Manager: self-hosted, on-premises

Free and open source (GNU AGPL v3). Runs on your own RHEL, Rocky, AlmaLinux or Ubuntu server; screens are Raspberry Pis, LG webOS Signage displays and standard LG webOS TVs. Learn more or download it free.

RingCast Cloud: hosted, web-based

Nothing to install or maintain: sign in on the web and pair your screens. Billed per screen per month. See ringcast.io for plans and screens.

Choose RingCast Manager if…

You want to own the system

The server, the content and the screen list live on your network. There is no cloud account to keep paying for.

You have many screens and a tight budget

There are no per-screen fees, so screen ten costs the same as screen one: the price of the screen.

You already have LG screens or Raspberry Pis

LG webOS Signage displays and standard LG TVs sit in the same list as Raspberry Pis, managed from one dashboard.

You need the source

The code is GNU AGPL v3. You can read it, audit it and keep running it whatever happens to us.

Your team works in English and Spanish

The dashboard and the guides come in both languages.

Choose another product if…

You don't want to run a server

Then RingCast Manager isn't for you: try our hosted edition, RingCast Cloud, or one of the hosted services above. They handle updates, backups and uptime for you.

Your screens aren't Raspberry Pi or LG

RingCast Player runs on Raspberry Pi and LG webOS screens. For Android, Fire TV, Windows or other players, look at the vendors above.

You want a vendor support contract

OptiSigns, Screenly and Yodeck sell plans with phone or priority support. We offer installation and support as a service, but the free software itself comes with community help only.

You need interactive kiosks or audience analytics

OptiSigns lists a kiosk designer and event analytics on its Engage plan. RingCast Manager is built for playlists and schedules, not kiosks.

FAQ

Questions

Is RingCast Manager really free?
Yes. It is free, open-source software under the GNU AGPL v3, with no per-screen fees. You supply the Linux server and the screens. Downloads need a free NetRing Tech community account.
Is it a cloud service like OptiSigns or Yodeck?
RingCast Manager is not: you install it on your own Linux server and your screens connect to that server, so nothing has to leave your network. If you want a hosted service instead, RingCast Cloud at ringcast.io is our web-based edition, billed per screen.
Which LG screens work?
LG webOS Signage displays install RingCast Player straight from your server. Standard LG webOS TVs with webOS 5 or later pair like any screen; RingCast Player for those TVs is coming to the LG Content Store.
What about Anthias, Screenly's open-source project?
Anthias is free and open source (GPLv2). Screenly says each Anthias install has its own dashboard and manages content per device. RingCast Manager manages every screen from one dashboard.
Can I move from another signage platform?
Your pictures, videos, PDFs and web pages can be uploaded again or linked. Playlists and schedules are set up in the new dashboard; we can do this for you as a paid service.
Who supports it?
The guides and the community forum are free. NetRing Tech Services offers installation, screen setup and support as paid services.
