Help desk & RMM alternatives

A free, self-hosted alternative to Atera, N-able, NinjaOne and SuperOps

RequestPath is a free IT help desk and operations platform you run on your own Windows Server: ticketing, assets, agents, Windows patching, scripts and optional remote support. Atera, N-able, NinjaOne and SuperOps are hosted RMM and PSA services sold by subscription. Here is how they compare, and when one of them is the better choice.

We make RequestPath. This page compares it with other products using their own public pages, checked 4 October 2026. We've tried to be fair, including where another product is the better choice.

If you want ticketing, asset inventory, patching and scripts for your own environment, on your own server and with no per-technician or per-device fees, RequestPath fits. If you are an MSP that needs client billing, a vendor-run service with an uptime commitment or deep macOS and Linux patching, the hosted platforms will suit you better.

Choose RequestPath if…

You run IT for your own organization

Tickets, change requests, assets, patching and reports for one environment, in one system your team controls.

You want the data on your server

Tickets, device data and saved credentials stay on your Windows Server. RequestPath only contacts the outside services you connect.

You pay per technician or per device today

RequestPath has no licence key and no limit on technicians, users or devices.

You already use Microsoft 365

Entra ID or Active Directory sign-in, Microsoft Graph email, Teams notifications, SharePoint archiving and Intune sync.

Choose another product if…

You bill clients from your RMM

Atera, N-sight and SuperOps put billing next to tickets. RequestPath is a help desk and IT operations platform, not a billing system.

You don't want to run a server

With RequestPath you look after the Windows Server, backups and certificates. Hosted platforms do that for you.

You patch many Macs

RequestPath's update reporting and app updates are Windows-only; its macOS agent reports inventory and runs scripts. NinjaOne lists macOS patching.

You need a vendor contract

The hosted platforms sell support and service commitments. RequestPath comes with guides and a community forum; NetRing Tech offers setup help as a service.

FAQ

Questions

Is RequestPath an RMM?
It covers much of what people buy an RMM for: agents on Windows, Linux and macOS, Windows patching, software deployment, scripts, monitoring and optional remote support. It is built around the help desk, so ticketing, change and asset management come first.
Is RequestPath really free?
Yes. There is no licence key, no limit on technicians or users and no expiry. You supply the Windows Server. Outside services you connect, such as an email provider, may have their own costs.
Is it open source?
No. RequestPath is free to use under the RequestPath Software License, which you read and accept during setup.
Can an MSP use it?
Yes, to run a help desk and manage devices. If you need client billing and invoicing in the same tool, the hosted platforms on this page include it.
Can I move from Atera, N-able, NinjaOne or SuperOps?
Install the RequestPath agent alongside your current one, check the inventory and patch reports, then retire the old agent. We can plan the move with you as a paid service.
